Fresh from the Hard Wax camp, the well regarded record shop shows it’s capabilities to distribute some really special and great material.
By the name of Prostitune, this semi-anonymous producer pushes the borders of calmer and deep house, bringing in classic elements of the 303, but also remaining true to the sound of 2009.
‘Money Nugget’ on the A is an anthem for people who love the Sound Stream style, but also want to keep things on a cooler level. Barry White(?) stands for the sampled vocals on this one, making the track feel a bit more soulful than just sampling a disco groove and keeping that 303 going for the entire track (which would’ve been good too, of course). The level of production on this track is really something special, it’s warm and feels really timeless. Probably a future classic in the right circles of DJ’s.
On the flip, ‘Lotion’ takes the sound from the A side but transform it into something that reminds me a bit of Larry Heard’s ’25 Years From Alpha’ record that came out last winter. The excellent groove has so many melodies that fits together perfectly. The amount of soul in this track is incredible.
